About Central Carolina Academy

Central Carolina Academy (CCA) is a tuition-free public charter school serving students in grades 6–12 in Sanford, North Carolina. Our college-preparatory academic program begins with strong foundations in middle school and builds toward expanded opportunities for students throughout their high school years.

A distinctive part of the CCA experience is the opportunity for students in grades 11 and 12 to maximize participation in North Carolina's Career and College Promise (CCP) program. Through our partnership with Central Carolina Community College, eligible students can earn college credit while still in high school, experience the expectations of college-level coursework, and explore pathways that support their future educational and career goals.

CCA combines academic challenge with a supportive school community focused on preparing students for success beyond graduation.

Our Story

Central Carolina Academy was approved by the North Carolina State Board of Education to open in Sanford, North Carolina, for the 2022–2023 school year.

CCA welcomed its first students in grades 6–10 in August 2022 and expanded each year as those students progressed. By the 2024–2025 school year, CCA reached its planned grade configuration and now serves students in grades 6–12.

Since opening, CCA has continued to grow while remaining focused on academic achievement, college and career readiness, and creating opportunities for students to reach their full potential.

Our Campus

Central Carolina Academy is located at 1801 Douglas Drive in Sanford in a unique three-story facility that was transformed from a former corporate office into a modern educational environment.

CCA purchased the facility in early 2022 and began extensive renovations to prepare the building for students. The third floor and a portion of the second floor were completed for the school's inaugural year, with the remaining renovations completed for the opening of the 2023–2024 school year.

Today, the campus provides learning, collaboration, and activity spaces designed to support CCA's middle and high school students in one unified school community.

Students will become self-directed, achieve academic excellence, and develop the personal values and responsibilities necessary to become globally competitive citizens in a rapidly changing world.
